J.J. Marshall is a born and bred resident of New York City who makes his living there as a broadcast designer and a digital video consultant. Most recently, he assisted in developing a nationwide broadband news-on-demand network called The FeedRoom. Prior to that, he helped introduce Oxygen Media to the joys of Final Cut Pro and After Effects while editing a weekly 2-hour show. Some more of his past efforts have included freelance projects for the New York New Media Association(NYNMA), Liz Claiborne, NetShoot, and the Center for Neurobiology and Behavior at Columbia University, as well as independent documentary productions that have aired on PBS. This book is worth every penny! I've only been working with After Effects for a few months and it has helped me learn everthing from scratch. The author makes it seem as if he's right over your shoulder as you go through the tutorials. I have sinced upgraded to AE 6.5 but I still find helpful ideas in this book. This is definitely for beginners and probably even a refresher for proffesionals. If you're still working with AE 5.0 or 5.5...get this book! It makes learning an app fun!

WOW! where do i start? i am, by nature, a multimedia gu-ru. love everything about it! i 1st dipped into adobe premiere and then adobe photoshop. i was eagerly wanting to learn adobe "after effects" which alot say, is the KING of the adobe line up. just due to the fact that its just that, "AFTER EFFECTS." basicly the final touch of a multimedia project. keeping in mind i had NO after effects experiance what so ever. that may be a good guage for the review.i 1st purchased the "after effects 5.0 classroom in a book." i found that book to be somewhat complicated. that book assumed you (the user) knew too much already. i managed to complete the book BUT still somewhat confused with the software. i found i was clicking, right clicking and didnt realy know why i was doing it?my next book was "after effects in production" (trish & chris meyer) that book was awesome! but NOT for begginers. the lessons in that book helped BUT being rookie status it was STILL confusing at points.finally for xmas i received the "after effects 6 bible." FINALLY, 3rd time was a charm! within the 1st 2 chapters i knew i had found a winner! the book NEVER assumes you know too much. it starts right at the BASIC steps. we MUST learn to crawl before we can learn to walk. that is what i feel "classroom in a book" was missing. if your coming in blind folded this book is the way to go! it is written just perfectly for learning this software. the author shares humor throughout the book and at times you feel like your in a classroom.HIGHLY RECOMEND for anyone in the market for learning A.E.! i can honestly say withought this book i may have NEVER learned A.E. i may have gave up in frustration. it is a complex program, anyone who has ever opened up the interface can atest to that. this book makes the complexity become clear! im now doing things i only thought was possible in hollywood studios.my recomendation if learning A.E. and in this EXACT order.1. complete THIS book (after effects 6 bible)2. your cookin after that book next do (classroom in a book)3. finally, icing on the cake with (after effects in production)you will then be well on your way to becoming an A.E master. it takes time. dont give up! This book is HEAVILY tied to an online framework at [...], access to which is provided by a code inside the front cover. Additional years or additional people cost $30/ea for just the code so it's currently a better deal just to buy multiple books for the first year for each person.Lots of questions can be answered here: (Amazon removes URLs so see my comment outside the review below.)Essentially to make best use of this book you need individual Minecraft accounts and individual learntomod.com accounts for each person both teacher and student.With that said, the framework they use looks really nice. It's essentially Scratch for Minecraft Mods. This would be especially good for younger programmers who may not grasp the concepts of loops and conditionals without the visual reminders languages like Scratch provide.

Man I wanted, I REALLY wanted to like this. I was prepared to LOVE it, with no effort. but, yo, the book doesn't match the website, which is slow to load and buggy as hell and not very user friendly , much less for kids that don't know what's going on. The software itself feels more like it's in beta, and only ports over to the playable server half the time, and the "live preview" is filled with these FREAKY looking monsters rather than minecraft objects. Look, nice ideas, the plug-in visual coding stuff is fantastic, but the current thing is unusable, I am super sorry to say. I hope it's still a work in progress and I come back in a year and it's suddenly awesome, because there's that potential, but this is not ready for the public.

There was a bunch of potential for greatness here; however, the book itself is just a launching pad to get involved with a website. While the site is free at first, it is necessary to pay to get all of the benefits. To top it off, the programs are buggy and hard to get to work consistently. I wouldn't purchase this again, if I had known what it would be like.

This book is now out of date. It relies on a website run in parallel by the authors. The website has been updated (admittedly, improved) so much that the book no longer corresponds to the site. If you email support they will assist you but it quickly can become overwhelming to kids — the audience of this book. I give it two stars rather than one because of the help provided to work through the issues.

This book is merely an instruction manual on how to use the author's pay website. As with most things internet, it is immediately outdated and obsolete. It comes with a code inside for a trial period of access to the site, which, again, is basically more obsolescence for the book. When I spend nearly twenty dollars on a book, it should be at least marginally useful. I was forced to buy this because I had borrowed one from the library (that was somehow suckered in by the title) and it got damaged. It shouldn't have been in the library in the first place, I shouldn't have had to replace it, and it should be about modding for Minecraft instead of a how-to about some other poorly designed, proprietary web site.Yes, I am bitter. But I was already offended that my library had wasted money on this before I had to put up any of my own.

The book is outdated with the website. I taught a class of 20 kids with it. One coding exercise that took over two hours didn't even work - and we copied it verbatim. I don't recommend even though it has it's own website. Maybe do the online learning thing on the website instead.fnord

Got this as a Christmas gift for my 10YO daughter who is a avid fan of the desktop and PE Minecraft game editions. She's been using this most of her break with the desktop MAC version.We did have some issues with the book not matching the online lessons, but I emailed the help and they got back to me within 2 hours! They sent some links and mentions that the website was updated to improve. They even sent a follow-up email.

I guess they updated the website you use in conjunction with this book and everything's off. Like the very first 'badge' you're suppose to get in the book isn't even a thing on the website. Was disappointed with this purchase.

A useful guide in handy size. Much valuable material. The walking/touring routes are a bit overlong to be practical and the author fail to mention some important sights, while at the same time detailing great stuff I'd never heard about before, a fairlry ideosyncratic and eclectic selection. Some of the material seems recycled from "Berlin: Then and Now". I echo the sentiments of an earlier reviewer that the work is somewhat light on Cold War era material, for example entirely omitting mention of one of the few still standing East German watch towers, one hidden behind buildings just south of Leipziger Platz. Only passing references to the ugly atrocities against the civilian Berlin population, the ensuing starvation, the clearing of the rubble, the rebuilding after the war and again after unification. He is also light in discussing the occupation years, mentioning the location of only a few of the allied kasernes and leaving out training areas, etc., which would be of interest to any GI who served in Germany over the decades after the War. I do get the sense that some of the text was written ten years ago or earlier and does not have the benefit of the historical view that's now formed about what is and isn't important. Some of the discussion is light weight and seems a bit off, such as the discussion of the state of the FuehrerBunker and the final Berlin surrender to the Russians. The writing style strikes a contemporary American as an older and more stilted UK English with the use of some terms that I don't think are used any longer on either side of the Atlantic. Also, not very well proof-read. The author mistakes Jesse Owens for Jesse James, not once but at least twice! My criticisms are mainly about style and his choices of emphasis. Don't let these criticisms deter you much,because, all-in-all, and despite some defects, I think that it is a most interesting and valuable book with much information that is hard or impossible for an English speaker to find elsewhere, particularly about the many battles and skirmishes in Seelow Heights, in the villages surrounding Berlin, and the neighborhood street fighting in Berlin proper. The author is clearly the master of these facts and provides abundant narrations from first-hand observers. Just don't take and swallow everything this book offers unchewed and undigested, keep a critical mind toward the contents, and don't make it your only source for a WWII-Cold War history visit to Berlin. I totally agree with another reviewer who suggested that history visitors obtain Kopleck's Pastfinder Berlin book for the Nazi period, 1933-1945, between the two, and with the use of contemporary maps and a map showing the path of the Wall, you will have what you need to find and experience the sites upon which much of the history of the 20th Century turned. BTW, most of the Pastfinder books are truly excellent, though it's hard to obtain some of them.

BBG does a good job of going into deep detail about what happened where in the Battle for Berlin. If you want to know which units, both German and Soviet, were where--down to streets and blocks-- plus the path of the advance, then this book is a great resource. For a detailed researcher, it's so good that it can be a forensic tool that helps you easily find the exact places where the outlined events took place.The big drawback of this book is that if you're new to researching the Battle for Berlin, this book is not for beginners. It presupposes that you have big picture knowledge of who and what happened where. If you are a beginner start with Cornelius Ryan's, "The Last Battle" or Anthony Bevor's, "The Fall of Berlin 1945".The book also does a good job of detailing Cold War sites which you could use whether you were a beginner or seasoned researcher. However, it is an incomplete Cold War resource. Really, it is only one of many you could use to figure out what happened where. Consider others such as the excellent, well organized book by Maik Kopleck, "Pastfinder Berlin 1945-1989: Traces of German History". Kopleck also publishes a Pastfinder Berlin book for the Nazi period, 1933-1945 which is outstanding. You might have to order Kopleck's books from amazon.de or amazon.co.uk.

“Fully Alive” is fully entertaining: A smooth blend of inspiration, story, and spirit. I was curious to learn how Tyler and his team intentionally balance traditional Amazonian practices with functional social entrepreneurial sensibilities. It is a path of honesty and heart. Rare that I ‘feel’ a book so much as I felt this one. I would read it again (something I don’t normally do). Thank you, Tyler. Respect.

I often am disenchanted with books, but I got into this and could not put it down. It is a raw look at what it takes to grow a business, the ups and downs, the wins and failures and how to survive them. It was also interesting to learn the cultural differences and what it took to get their product into the US.

I read Mr. Gage's story with anticipation of learning more of the Ecuadorian people and their lifestyle. But learned just as much about the trails and tribulations of a start up business. Well written and worth the time! Would love to see a second book about the Ecuador experience and of course the Amazon~~ I would bet Tyler has super stories to tell :)

As an Ecuadorian born and raised in Ecuador and now living in New York I can instantly connect with Tyler in many ways during the narration of the book. Ecuador is a beautiful country with a limitation in capitalism. Tyler was able to build an empire base on an Ecuadorian natural resource without lamenting the investment that he and his supporters will get involved with. Tyler as innovating artisan was coping with all the bureaucracy country's stupidity to engage in an skeptical business. Tyler you got balls to go to a country like Ecuador and survived the atrocities of business and politics combined. The book explain step by step that is not easy to become a business man in a flash and that it takes patience and strength (Like the two front lions in the NY library, Patience and Fortitude).

I can't say enough good things about this book. I've got a stack of about 10 other books on my nightstand that I've been in the process of reading for sometime now, and typically just chip away a few chapters at a time on. I could not put this one down, and read the entire book cover to cover in one day. Something about the relatable practicality of Tyler's journey in building Runa into what it's become today just creates a tangible energy that vibrates in your spirit and encourages you to live your passion. I can honestly say that I've gotten more inspiration from this book that I have in the many "greats" that have come before it. I have a few books that I keep in close proximity that every once in a while I'll be searching for answers and will just flip to a random page and trust in the wisdom that it provides. This will definitely be added into that collection.

His style is straight forward and places emphasis where needed, as in "Ladies, read that paragraph twice."This book also gave me a name and definition for some behaviors of my most recent ex and that is flakey! Yes, ladies, don't be flakey. Bruce, women dislike that quality too.Having read it once through, I go back and read it like a menu. I also recently bought another of his books about not getting played, as it has happened a time or two. I hope to glean a tool or two from any of his books.I get Bruce's newsletter​ by email and those topics are helpful too, some an expansion of ideas in this book and his others.

I love how the author gives simple but powerful guidelines on how we need to respect ourselves no matter what.I just broke up with a boyfriend that was all that...handsome, tall, smart, successful, but he was not reciprocating all that I was giving (more than him) so thanks to the advice of this book, I pulled the plug. As Painful as it is, is also empowering because I and only myself decide the kind of relationship I want and I know I deserve unconditional love. Not making excuses because he is handsome and smart and phDoctor all that. He is not treating me right, his mediocre, half butt efforts are not enough...he got kicked to the curb. It hurts but it would hurt more staying with someone undeserving.Thanks to the author for opening my eyes.

Very Enlightening and Horribly Eye Opening at the same time!!I am a 50 year old, educated, successful woman that has been through Hell with men a majority of my life beginning in childhood having been sexually molested by 6 different men. My "adulthood" started with 2 physically and mentally abusive and manipulative relationships and the 3rd I drove away with my harsh and demeaning mentality I had towards men. At the age of 39, I swore off men due to my belief that although I am a very good judge of character with the people I do not have romantic feelings for, I obviously was a total failure at romantic relationships. For 11 years I was very happy, content, and totally single.Then I met a man (Or I thought was a man) that broke down the impenetrable walls that several before him had tried to destroy, but failed miserably! Then due to my insecurities and total shame for what I had already gone through with men I was played and abandoned. This left me more broken than I had been in my life! All of my defenses were crushed and I was left "naked and unarmed", and suffered a total mental breakdown.This book has helped me tremendously in knowing that I am not the only one that has gone through this. AND it made me realize that although there could be men out there that are worthy and will not intentionally set out to harm the broken, insecure, and vulnerable women such as myself! BUT it is up to ME to make sure I receive it without guilt or shame in feeling that I deserve a Good, Honest, Loving Man!!Thank you Mr. Bryans!!

If ONLY this book had been available in my 20's, it would have saved me a boat load of misery. Still, at my moderate age of 58 (chuckles), it provided me information that I had never before contemplated or realized. It is very informative and highly educational. I would recommend this book to ALL high school senior girls. It will give them incredible insight on how to select the men who will be a part of their lives.

All I can say is - wow. Thought the title may throw some people off - the contents are brutally honest. In my opinion - it's not about chasing/not chasing men but a thought process overhaul. Much of it I'd heard before & not sure WHY or how reading this really drove the points home - but it did. I started recommending it to SEVERAL people after Chapter 1.

This book was very insightful, and helped me to see some of the things I was doing wrong. I wish I had read this 10 years ago!!

I thought I was doing everything right, turns out I was doing everything wrong. It’s such common sense but until you read it you’re unaware of it Bc we think like women, not men. As a child, watching my step father take off his wedding ring before taking me inside a diner where - I learned much later in life - he and one of the very pretty waitresses had a ‘thing’.Couple that with my mom’s EXTREME co-dependent nature toward men. I clearly see now that led me toward constant picking of men who took advantage and tossed me into the “friends with benefits” category almost immediately. Ugh, ugh and ugh. But I let them.I was even married to a man who treated me like that!Enough!Now that I-have a guide shining a light on my mistakes and being given practical advice for what I can do to enforce my personal boundaries, I can move forward In a mo’ betta sort of manner.Girls, I highly recommend this tough love book now. Especially if you know you deserve a loving relationship with a high quality man. After years and years of building up my self esteem and healing my past, this is the one huge piece of the puzzle that’s been missing.Well, not anymore.

I would recommend it to any book lover.I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.

I enjoyed this book minus the POV. I was not a fan. It seems less personal when it's like that. And for me it made a huge dent in my review. But other than that this was filled with extreme pleasure. I was seriously intrigued. There was never a dull moment. The book was seriously erotic. Even though it ended the way it did, it still left me with questions. I wish this was written in a different POV and that is was longer. This had the makings of a fantastic book. Not that it wasn't good. But unfortunately I wasn't in love with it. I will admit it was nice to have an H that didn't flaunt his floosies. He was just a lost man that needed the love he found in Sara-Jane.

Lulu totally nailed this bad boy 100% on point. Written with such realism it really pulls this little gem to a whole new level. This is one action packed, hard hitting, pulse racing, heart pounding, nerve racking, page turning bombshell that brings everything roaring to life brilliantly. The main characters chemistry is intense, white hot, off the charts explosive. The characters are complex and believable with such depth and individuality it's easy to relate. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive you have no trouble picturing each scenario as they play off one another perfectly. All the drama, uncertainty and suspense increases while tension spirals. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances that make for one thrilling experience. Lulu has really stepped up the game when it comes to imagination, insight and how to weave a story so tightly and realistic it blows your mind. This little dynamo will take you to your knees one second and standing strong the next just to rip your heart apart. A rollercoaster ride of emotions and events that really pull those heartstrings. You feel everything the characters feel. You become part of the story instead of on the sidelines. Remarkable job Lulu, thanks for sharing this little treasure with us.I received a review copy of this story.

I don't think there is a romantic storyline Mrs. Lulu Pratt could not write, and do it superbly. Callum and Sarah-Jane have three things in common; where they work, having their heart broken and their undeniable love for one another. He's a billionaire as well as the owner of the company (Boss). Callum has his sights set on Sarah Jane to be his Valentine, will she agree? Sarah-Jane had her boyfriend of four years, leave her, to begin again in New York City without her. Following their Journey makes you feel like you are right there with them. Claiming His Valentine is very realistically written; the angst, frustration, and the incredible chemistry between them draws you right into this beautifully crafted storyline. I highly recommend this book to romance readers everywhere, as I know you will be as engrossed as I was from cover to cover.  I was beyond fortunate to have requested an advanced reader's copy of Claiming His Valentine in exchange for my honest/voluntarily given opinion and I highly recommend reading this book as well as anything written by Mrs. Pratt. She is an Author at the top of her craft and never disappoints her reader's.  I, personally, cannot wait to see what she releases for us next.

Before I read this book, I expected Jay McInerney to write in a similar way to Bret Easton Ellis, as many critics consider the two authors to be in the same ideological camp. I have only read Ellis’ debut novel Less Than Zero, which I know is not wholly representative of his oeuvre, yet I can draw conclusions about Ellis’ usual themes. I believe Frank Ocean summarized the experience well in the song “Novacane,” his characters have pushed the envelope of experience so far that self-destructive behavior is the only thing that has any power to make them feel emotion.This was not the case in this book, as I found Jay McInerney’s protagonist to be not so far gone. Though he is prone to self-destructive behavior, there is still oftentimes a self-awareness that his frequent cocaine use and late nights are not healthy. I found the second-person point of view to be a little gimmicky, ultimately because I don’t think it added much to the effect of the novel. Had he used the first person I think the book would have read mostly the same. However, I did feel able to identify with the main character, I was also once a white, twenty-four year old male, living in New York City, an aspiring writer, struggling with a job that I had no passion for, and engaging in self-destructive behavior. The novel was very relatable, and McInerney writes about the city in a recognizable way, despite it taking place in the eighties. I recommend this book as a quick, light read!

Not being from the ivy league myself I missed out on being the golden boy fresh out of college with a plum job , personal problems and an inclination to self destruct , so its a relief to have read this book even if its 25 years late.Very well written by some guy that would ignore me at a party.

I only read the book because I heard the author interviewed. As I read the book I kept reading more out of curiosity than for anything else. But at the end it all came together and I was very moved emotionally.The author's way with words is exquisite.

McInerney's book remains relevant in 2014. I'd never read a book in second person before and while it took a few chapters to get into it, I thought it allowed for a deeper connection with the character. The main character chronicles his life in New York while experiencing quarter-life ennui. It remains on the surface, but has a beating heart somewhere under it.You read this book when your apartment is filthy, you're directionless and are looking for a kindred spirit. Highly recommended.

This reminded me of Candace Bushnell’s columns and other writing of that time when New York was all coke and cocktail dresses. It was probably more fun to live it than it is to read it.

At first i thought this would be a very Brett Easton Ellis-eque book, which it seemed to be at the beginning. It starts with a seemingly shallow character which is yourself as this book is in second person. The character seems to live for drugs, trying to get laid, and just trying to find depth in a shallow pool. But then you grow to love him. Slowly little clues are revealed and you emphasize with him. It turned out to be a beautiful story, and even sad at times. It has real depth. And it isnt long at 200 pages, but it is full, very full.

This was the LONGEST under 200pg book ever. I loved some of his other works "Story of My Life" but this one was just boring and never did it for me. Trying to understand how they made a movie out of this because the book was painful.

The good old eighties. I feel I missed so much. But just reading the book makes up for it. The Creative Class crashes, burns, resurrects.
