Roth should get the Nobel. If he doesn't, the deciders are either biased or ujniformed. As for the current volume, his nonfiction is lucid, interestng, and Nobel level. I have read everything by Roth, and would love to read more and more.

Roth was an extremely dedicated and prolific writer and the speeches and interviews here are just as interesting and startlingly well written.His reflections on writing, culture, politics, other writers, and life in general are gripping stuff. I couldn't put this book down, it is the most intelligent book I've read in years.

Great BOOK
Classic Roth, with some rare gems. A must for writers and editors
Roth is prescriptive, self-effacing, didactic, and painfully honest. He has a breadth and awareness of the literary tropes most often misunderstood or glossed over by others. The volume completed my ten-volume Library of America Roth set. Though I had read many selections previously, the totality of the Roth principle is nowhere more evident than in this volume. Enlightening!
