In elementary school, like many children, I was introduced to Helen Keller through "The Miracle Worker," a film about how a deaf and blind girl learned to acquire language. The depth of Keller's suffering and the height of her triumph left an indelible impression on me. It taught me about the pain and sorrow intrinsic to the human experience and about the possibility of redemption through perseverance, discipline, and strength of will. I realize now, the story also serves as a testament to the power of literacy and its ability to open up the entire dimension of what we consider to be modern, civilized life.Only as an adult did I become aware that Helen Keller wrote an autobiographical account of her life. That mere fact intrigued me, as I wondered in my ignorance whether a woman who had been blind and deaf since the age of 19 months could possibly have anything of value to communicate. I was also curious: what would the writing of a person of such severe limitation look like? Would she deliver a message so strange that it might be perceived as alien to the normal human reader?I was stunned to find a beautiful, intelligent mind at work. Ironically, Helen's limitations may have made her more sensitive to the world around her. She was extremely perceptive and saw more with her limited senses than most people do with vision and hearing intact. At its best, her writing rivals the greatest prose of the 19th and 20th century.It was fascinating to read about Helen's love for reading; her frustration with education--not because she was incapable of learning, but because "there is no time to commune with one's thoughts. One goes to college to learn, it seems, not to think. When one enters the portals of learning, one leaves the dearest pleasures–solitude, books and imagination–outside with the whispering pines"; her passion for social justice; her unique perception of the world; her enduring loneliness; and, the strength of character and the extraordinary friendships in her life that helped her overcome her enormous obstacles.Keller's autobiography is a true classic and a representation of humanity at its best. I highly recommend it.

I read this book at a time when l was feeling depressed about limitations associated with aging. It put my cares in perspective. I did feel the last few chapters are mostly lists, but that was what was important to her. She wrote this book while still in college. How much more she achieved in the rest of her life.

I read this in 7th grade (45+ years ago) - but it was well worth the re-read.Miss Keller was an amazing woman. Just reading and understanding thatthings were so much simpler then, but the strides being made to help folkswas great. There were several leads to other patients & researchers tofollow up on — which always makes me happy when a subject interests me.

Ms. Keller writes of a life that seems fairly commonplace. She doesn't seem to realize how remarkable her accomplishments are. I suppose given the constraints on her observations of life around her she wasn't able to give any comparisons to other's struggles to try and accomplish what she does. So her story lacks depth. I have read other accounts of Helen Keller's life that I found fascinating. This was supposed to be illustrated but there were no pictures in this book. I was unable to finish this.

I have read the entire Mitford series multiple times and have all the books in hardback, but also read the covers off a set of paperbacks. I just started reading them on Kindle and still find the stories to be so fresh and uplifting. They take me to a place I want to live. Can't wait to start the next book... again!

If population statistics were normalized, Helen Keller's STORY OF MY LIFE would rank among the most popular/translated books of the last 150 years. I believe I once read that, after the Bible, it was for a time the most common book in the American home. And with good reason. All the more reason to applaud this "Restored Classic" edition; no mere reprint, instead is is a multi-layered and multi-angled presentation of the original text edited by Roger Shattuck with Dorothy Herrmann. For me, besides the historical information contextulaized Keller's long and variegated career, the most moving revelations are the supplementary accounts by Anne Sullivan (her teacher) and John Macy (Sullivan's husband). I recommend these, especially Sullivan's "Letters and Reports", to any reader interested in pedagogy in many a field including but hardly limited to "special ed". The Forward, the Appendices, the Notes, the Afterword --- I can't speak highly enough of this disciplined and empassioned variety of scholarship. For teachers who may be feeling -- at whatever stage in ther careers, somewhat lost at sea, this is bedrock material and ground to stand on.

This was an amazing young lady, I have visited her home in Florence, and was very amazed with the place and the story about her life. If you get a chance to go to Florence, Ala. DO so you want regret it.

The copyright page states that this is a work of fiction??? "This book is a work of fiction and any resemblance to any person, living or dead..." What's with that? Also, this copy has no dedication to Alexander Graham Bell. It is poorly put together as one has to pull the pages back as the type disappears into the binding. Is this a pirated copy? Shame on Amazon!

I have been chronically ill for 18 years and fell prey to Health and Wealth prosperity teaching in the early years of illness. I spent many hours watching TBN and believed my positive thoughts, confessions, seed sowing (giving) and service led to high functionality. I was very high functioning for 6 years, but lost all functionality in 2012. I felt betrayed by God and almost lost my faith.I stopped watching TBN and fell in love with the pure word of God. I realized that being full of faith while suffering was as miraculous as being "healed" physically. Well meaning people have said things that have been hurtful, but this book was like a balm for my heart. Romans 8:18, "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."

Review:Costi Hinn and Anthony Wood have done with this book what men of more education and platform have been unable to do, they make a convincing argument pointing out the flaws of some teachings and beliefs of the Charismatic and Pentecostal movements. They succeeded where many in the cessationist camp have failed in their reviews, blogs and books. Hinn and Wood did not paint with a broad brush, they clarified upfront that there is a difference between mainstream Charismatic/ Pentecostal leaders and they did not make the assumption that ALL Pentecostal/ Charismatic believers were of the same belief base. Most important, they approached this from the perspective of love and I am particularly impressed that Costi didn’t show dishonor to his Uncle or his relatives in my opinion.I don’t agree with everything they stated but I must say that I pray this is the beginning of a dialogue that allows for thoughtful and Christ honoring discussion in the future regarding such a critical topic. Both sides of this debate should stop the belittling posts made on social media, books that misrepresent facts and conferences that are reckless with overstatements. There are examples of this on both sides of this argument.Background Info:I am a believer in the continuing gifts of the Spirit. I am the CEO of a business in So. California and am not in full time ministry at the moment but pray to be in the next few years. I am the son of a leader in the Assemblies of God and have been fortunate enough to have been brought up in a Biblically sound church. My grandfather founded an A/G church down the road from Masters College and was an admirer of John MacArthur even though there was a difference in the gifts. I picked up my admiration for Dr. MacArthur from my Pentecostal Grandfather and I also have great admiration for him as well as Phil Johnson, Mark Denver, Al Mohler and many other cessation Pastor’s and theologians. I’ve also been privileged to hear some of the great ministers in the Pentecostal movement preach from my dad’s pulpit, sit at our dinner table and pray over my life and that of our family. I’ve read the books and studies of Jack Hayford, Stanley Horton, Michael Brown, David Wilkerson and others.I do have a concern that there is real deficiency of sound Biblical teaching in some topics or ministries in the Pentecostal movement today. I also believe there needs to be more leaders within the movement addressing these issues. I am of the opinion that the movement is in need of more men who will speak to the movement in the same manner of David Wilkerson and call out the heresy of the prosperity gospel, the trend of preaching motivational messages and the abuse of church leadership for the garbage that they represent. I am concerned that you can literally watch hours of “preaching” by some in the NAR movement and not hear a single reference to scripture. There are too many weird, crazy off the wall manifestations that have found acceptance in some circles despite the fact that they posses as much Biblical grounding as instructions for IKEA furniture assembly.On the other hand, many in the “discernment” business need to check their hearts. Making wide sweeping and sometimes false accusations, writing books and holding conferences that use these false accusations to jeer and condemn the entire movement as degenerate or false is just as wrong. Although they have good feedback at times, I’ve also seen vengeful talk and targeting on social media that brings zero Glory to our Saviour! In addition, there are many topics that need correction that are being stifled because there is more energy spent in the movement deflecting these often vengeful attacks while there are issues and concerns that those outside don’t address or have knowledge of currently.I applaud the approach that this book takes and should you ever find your way down to the No. San Diego area would love to listen to you preach.

“Defining Deception” is one of the most important books you should read this year. My wife and I were once in a Third Wave/NAR Church & experienced it firsthand. Our hearts break for the lost & deceived. This book sheds light on the darkness.

You don't receive a tornado warning with glee and giddiness, nor will this book leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside - it's not supposed to. It is a clarion call that - especially for those directly in the mystical/miracle movement's swath of force - is meant to save lives. For Christians outside of the Third Wave / New Apostolic Reformation havoc, this book is also necessary because as with any natural disaster we must not only consider our own safety but lovingly consider how we can help those in the thick of the crisis. In other words, there are no Christians that don't need to read this book. Whether it be a warning about what is happening to us directly, or a heart-wrenching news report on what is happening to our loved ones denominationally "abroad," we are required to know and care. If I needed to read just one book to get a clear, overarching picture that is well-documented and written in a spirit of love and kindness - this would be the one.

Wonderful cookbook!

This book has some great recipes. Unfortunately it's full of typos and was clearly never copy edited.

Nothing exciting about this cookbook

This is very comprehensive book with the illustrations on burger recipes. This book is really teaches awesome ways to create your own burger, from your patty down to adding flavors into it. I like that the author is very detailed in giving out instructions on how you can make a perfect patty for yourself. I find this a good addition to my cookbooks because of its methods and recipes. I just think that 99 recipes are a bit much for a single book. I believe that once in a while you have to indulge yourself with your pleasure foods and this book is perfect for it.

This book is wonderful. I love the recipes.

This has been a really challenging set of grooves and exercises so far. My only regret is buying the electronic version. I did it for the convenience of using my iPad, which I attach to my hi-hat stand. However, you don't get the CD with the grooves recorded that way, so sometimes it's harder to know what the end result *should* sound like. That's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. Otherwise, it's a great book that will push your playing no matter where you are skill wise.

Beyond the stated and obvious benefits of studying the exercises from this book, there are collateral benefits as well. I have found three weeks into faithfully practicing these exercises, that my time feel has gotten cemented. I have always had good time but my pocket has gotten so much deeper since beginning to practice from Future Sounds. Logically it makes sense because we are practicing sixteenth note subdivisions with changing accents and feels on both hands and feet. The aim of course, is to feel these subdivisions and to make these rhythms groove. By so doing, my feel has become so much more natural to the point of getting comments from the audience about the pocket I've been setting. I've worked out of various books which are meant to improve the drummer's time concepts but none have done me as much good as working from this book. To have great time, you've got to get the whole idea out of your head and into your hands. Great time is felt! You have to feel it to make it happen. These exercises really help. Also, applying the principles from the George Stone Stick Control book help you to play these rhythms so much better. My overall "flow" when playing with the band has been enhanced greatly as a result of practicing Future Sounds exercises. If the book promised nothing more than the things I've already mentioned, it would be worth the price of admission. Of course, these are the things that AREN'T mentioned in the ads for Future Sounds. Suffice it to say that practiced regularly and with commitment, Future Sounds delivers on its' promises and then some. Recommended for intermediate to advanced players and to all drummers, especially those who want to get in on David Garibaldi's "secrets" of funk drumming.

Great book for learning to play with more subtlety, dynamics and creativity on the kit. This was one of the first books my drum teacher had me crack open after a 20 year hiatus from the drums (played a bit in high school, got distracted by guitar and hand percussion for a few decades and then came back to drum kit in my mid thirties once I finally had a basement I could set a set up in.) This isn't an easy book to get through and some of the exercises will have you gnashing your teeth but it's BEAUTIFUL when the lessons finally sink in and you feel that GROOVE flowing through all four of your limbs. I've been grinding my way through this book (among a few others like "Stick Control" and "Syncopation") for the last two months and have seen my playing grow by leaps and bounds. I'd agree with some of the other reviewers that it's not a "beginner" book, and honestly it was probably a bit above my level when I stared digging through it, but it's pure meditation and accomplishment going through this thing and learning how to drum with more funk and musicality.Plus it makes my brain hurt.Highly recommend.

I love the beats and teachings, but the copy I recieved has permutation studies that differ from my instructors copy(that he’s had for many years)... he is one of the states best instructors and he says he has never seen that happen haha. I was hoping for a chance to receive a replacement but it looks like my return window has shut

This is a great book that teaches skills that can be applied to many other drum books. David teaches how to develop permutations of a groove. It you have a drum groove with eight notes, if you shift the notes to the right once, you have a new groove called a permutation of the main groove. If there are eight notes in one groove, you can potentially create eight permutations of the original groove by shifting all the notes on the snare and bass drum to the right once. When you have done this eight times you are back at the original groove. So if you have fifty eight note grooves, you can create four hundred permutations. You can take a book like stick control and create thousands of permutations. The results of playing all these different combinations is a greater vocabulary on the drum set. To be a monster and versatile, you need to practice as many permutations as you can figure out. David has shown us how to create permutations. Lets say you wanted to create sixteenth note permutations. Instead of shifting eight times, you would have to shift sixteen times to come back to the original. So, fifty original grooves multiplied by sixteen permutations for each groove equals eight hundred permutations all together. This concept is infinite and can be applied to any drum book other than "Future Sounds" that you will potentially own in a life time. Great stuff. I hope this has been of benefit to you. I got this book about six months ago and it sat there until yesterday because I had ordered multiple books at that time. Boy was that the wrong choice. I started working out of it yesterday and I’m excited about the possibilities that have been opened to me in just the first 3 pages. It works your brain for sure. Get this book. Your brain will hate you but your drums will love you.

If you're anything like me, this book made you realize just how little you really know. A lot of the exercises that involve playing different dynamics on different limbs were soul-crushing at first. I didn't know that something so simple could give me so much grief!I can't say that I use this book's grooves a lot in my playing (some of them are downright esoteric unless you're playing some way out there, funky avant-garde stuff ), but the exercises have done so much to improve my coordination and feel. If you're feeling cocky and need a book to take you down a peg, this one will do it!

Recommend this series and this book for those who like action and adventure and humor. Also recommend for the reluctant reader. These hard to put down books have been read by all 3 of my boys and myself. The author uses this book to explore some of the stories touched upon in previous books, but not detailed. The stories that reveal the characters' pasts and their smaller adventures. The premise behind the stories is of a present day archaeologist and his assistants are excavating the remains of a castle, when one of them finds the ruins of a Ranger's cabin and a manuscript filled with long-lost tales.My boys were between 10 and 12 when they started reading this series. My now 13 year old is enjoying these added adventures and I have a feeling when my other 2 come home from college, they will read this as well.

It was an interesting direction the author decided to take with these short stories that some up the time, about five years or so after the events of book 10. The short stories are presented as a stories found by archaeologist centuries after the event. There is great balance with in the stories themselves each entertaining and enthralling in their own ways. While it is easy to guess as to what some of the stories might contain they were a few surprises. Overall it was an enjoyable read, with just enough bittersweetness to some of the stories and laughter in others to make it memorable.

There were a lot of questions and mysteries and holes in the Ranger's Apprentice story. There was the tantalizing affair of Cassandra and Horace's wedding. The story of Halt's role at Hackam Heath. And, of course, the biggest question, the unsolvable issue of Will's father and mother, his arrival at Castle Redmont's doorstep, and Halt's involvement in it all.The Lost Stories explain all of that, and then some. Flanagan answered the riddle of Halt's recruitment by the Ranger's Corps in 'The Hibernian', which was five chapters that I would've happily paid ten times the book's price for (but the set price is just dandy). He included two of Gilan's adventures, or rather one of Gilan's and one of Jenny's. The short story 'Dinner for Five' explains how Jenny develops feelings for the Ranger. 'The Inkwell and the Dagger' describes how Gilan took care of Foldar, a previous follower of the vanquished lord Morgorath who was terrorizing the countryside. Of course, there was an entertaining little scuffle, courtesy of Will and his mentor, as they were trying to arrest some moondarkers (thieves that trick ships into sailing head-on to rocks), an excursion to search for a stolen pet, and a nasty occurrence that involves a three-legged wolf.I thought that Will's understanding of Tug's words was a little absurd in the last story, but that's my only criticism.I loved the way Flanagan integrated an impromptu ad for his new series at the end. I'm sure I'll check that out later.VBG

I did not get The Lost Stories at first becase I thought that he was just making a series last longer and didn't sound like it would ad that much. However, my 10 year old grandson is now on volume 9 and is loving the series. His 8 year old brother wants to read it since he likes it so much. Don't know if he has the patients though for a more realistic fantasy story. He has also gotten grandpa interested who is finding it lots of fun and on book 9. When Collin asked about the 11th volume I expained to him my reasons for not getting it and suggested that his dad get it when he has finished the series. A volume or 2 later I found that he is liking the books more and more so I decided to give in and give it a chance. Is it like the other books? No, but they are stories to fill in the areas you may have wondered about while reading the series. They are interesting and are sort of like finding out more about your friends. It was sort of sad when the series ended. I'm glad it did though because I have found a number of series lately that I did not like the last book written and even wished I had not purchased them. So the stories really are a nice closing and I am sure both grandsons and grandfather will enjoy them. I've gone on to the Brother Band chroicles and find them quite enjoyable too.

There are no words eloquent enough to describe how much I have enjoyed every word from the books in this series. This ending was the perfect touch, and a wonderful introduction to The Brotherband Chronicles. This is my third time reading The Ranger’s Apprentice, and I want to share it all with my grandsons.

These stories clear up a few mysteries you may have wondered about, and it is something to read when you have read the last of the ten book series. That way you are let down a bit easier than just being left in the cold cold world of no more Ranger's books. I definitely recommend this book and I highly recommend the 10 book series. It is a great adventure, the characterizations are strong and very endearing (Except for the few bad guys of course). It is also refreshingly free of obscenity and it somehow manages to capture your interest and affection without the normal bait of graphic sex and lurid scenes. I am not prissy by any means but I do really appreciate good story telling without the present fashion of irrelevant sex and gore liberally sprinkled throughout without regard to whether it enhances or detracts from the work.

When it comes to Flanagan's Ranger's Apprentice and Brotherband series, I'm a huge fan. I prefer the complete books to these "vignette"-type books, as they do sometimes come across as being slightly thin in terms of the stories (I realize that's by necessity), but I definitely appreciate finding out about some of the "stories behind the stories." I'm not too tough a critic, but since I felt this book wasn't quite 5-star worthy I "forced" myself to give only four stars. If I could, I'd give it 4.5. As I said, I'm a serious Flanagan fan, so that almost hurts me to do so! I loved the Ranger's Apprentice series and can't wait for the next Brotherband installment!!

What an interesting title. It's the "before" that at once catches the eye. While India and Gandhi are inextricably linked, this book derives its principal interest from how South Africa prepared Gandhi for his future role. As Jon Stewart remarked right away when he introduced author Ramachandra Guha on his show, Gandhi is truly a "global" figure in the highest sense of the phrase even in this era of mass celebrities where he stands taller than pretty much everyone else to date. Indeed, whatever may be the future of humanity, and, however and whoever writes it, Gandhi will always be an essential player in that account. In simple, clear, enthusiastic prose Guha charts the evolution of Gandhi from a modest young lawyer with unremarkable speaking skills, one who had yet to find his real métier, to someone who became self-charged with a mission of fighting injustice in his own unique and now immediately, famously, recognizable way. In time to come, he was able to hold the attention of millions when he spoke. From what I gather reading this book, in the second half of the nineteenth century, racism in South Africa was raw and unspeakably vile. How on earth a shy young man coming from a subcontinent away, ostensibly to practice law on behalf of a small Indian community in its diaspora, stepped up to a huge challenge involving the very foundations of justice as applicable to all (if it is to be just) while still maintaining decency, dignity, kindliness vis-a-vis the aggressive Boers and British is nothing short of revolutionary - in the best sense of that word. The thing is Guha (if I understand correctly) suggests that nothing in Gandhi's background probably predisposed him naturally to fight the battles that he met/chose. As the book points out, the "trader caste" from which Gandhi originated were just the kind of folks who abhorred rocking the boat. Profits rather than a desire for justice probably controlled their raison d'être. Guha's challenge is to show how from such a conservative seed bed arose this innovative "warrior" of the spirit and I believe this book does that very well. One critical facet that emerges from the book is that Gandhi possessed not only an abundance of "moral"/ethical courage but, surprisingly, a great deal of "physical" courage as well despite his apparent lack of physical prowess. Thus it is that Gandhi will always stand for me as the perfect antidote to the biggest bullies of his age. In researching source materials for this book, Guha took advantage of newly arrived access to archives from post-apartheid South Africa. That was a great move on his part. I leave with the perception that the greatest of persons are not necessarily born that way. Like the rest of us they too have to swim against the current to make something of themselves. But unlike most of us, time and circumstance evoke an amazing, out of scale, and yet benevolent response from them. Read, you have nothing to lose and much to admire!

As a long time fan of the writer and having picked up this book in Berkeley, I was pleased to read that the book was born in Ram Guha's mind when teaching a course on Gandhi at Berkeley in 1998. The title of this book is not just a play on words after his famous book India After Gandhi, it truly is 550 pages of the largely unknown story of Gandhi starting at birth (1869) and before returning to India after 20 years in South Africa (1894-1914).With a rigor that only Ram Guha is capable of, he arduously reconstructs the story of Gandhi's first 45 years from contemporary records of his years in Porbandar, Rajkot, Bombay, London, Durban and Johannesburg. While earlier works are a collection of writings by Gandhi or secondary works thereof, this book also referred letters written by others to Gandhi, papers of Gandhi's friends and associates in South Africa, records of governments of India, South Africa and England, and archived newspapers and publications of the time. It is a miracle that all these sources were stitched so perfectly in chronology and diligently edited to re-create a deeply personal story spanning his early childhood, relationship with his parents, relationship with Muslim friends from school and then abroad, relationships with his wife and children, relationships with Christians, Jews and Parsis in his life in London and South Africa, besides Hindus from different states, speaking different languages and from different socio-economic conditions. For a pious Indian bania, his work with women was far ahead of his time as well.As an upper-caste Hindu male in the 19th century, you can see his world view shift after finding himself among an oppressed minority in South Africa, discovering the power of his moral character and values, evolving into a leader of the Asiatics (including Chinese), while inspiring white South Africans alike, successfully experimenting with the ideas of passive resistance and satyagraha in the face of strong colonial leadership, before returning to India as "Mahatma" and contributing to the freedom struggle in a decisive way with the same ideas. As an Indian, especially as an immigrant, I could relate to the power of these foundation years - more than half his life - in shaping a personality that we know to be the legend who is practically immortal with what he stands for. Some of the most unknown stories of one of the most popular men on the planet. You must read it and get inspired with ideas that remain as relevant as ever in the 21st century.

I just completed reading this book. Another excellently researched, well written book by this author, though this is a bit of a slow read.I have read several books on Gandhi, with Gandhi (like history of Indian independence), watched the movie. But Gandhi always seemed either one dimensional or a superman. This is the first book that provides depth to Gandhi, at least made him more human to me.It does not diminish what Gandhi accomplished, it adds to it. Gandhi's personality grows in the book. One understands why Gandhi did what he did and how he did it. It has only increased my respect for the man. Many people criticize Gandhi and his methods, his leadership & philosophy. At time this has included me. However I think I have come to the conclusion that this criticism was/is unwarranted. Gandhi was not like Hitler or Stalin who imposed their philosophy on others through fear and repression. He instead showed an alternative way and asked people to follow. He did not stop others from leading. I think India and the world is better off thanks to this. And history shows that his methods take time to get results but overall the society progresses leaving behind little scars, which makes for a better humane world.

I loved Peace Like a Monkey. By page 5, I knew that this was the kind of book that I would be sad to finish.I lived in Dar es Salaam for a few years in the ’00s, though not nearly as long as Marya. She perfectly captures my own nostalgia for a country and culture that is warm, hospitable, quick to laugh and full of heart.Marya’s writing is empathetic, insightful and real, without an ounce of self-indulgence. She sees the positive in every situation without sugar-coating. She is funny, but never irreverent.Chapters 8 (Got Placentas?) and 10 (Blood Samples on Filter Paper) should be required reading for any student of global public health. And if you’re thinking about living in a developing country, read pages 4-5 about paying the electric bill in Tanzania, and think long and hard about whether this scenario sounds like fun or torture.Generosity is at the heart of Marya’s writing, and of her soul. I hope that she will generously continue to share her tales of Tanzania, home and human connection.

I bought it because I am going to be in Tanzania next summer. It has some interesting between-chapter information about cultural differences between locals and tourists, but much of this short book is about the author's work with health organizations in Tanzania. Plotkin certainly has a unique perspective on the culture of the country, but be prepared for more medical details than you might otherwise expect.

Marya K Plotkin's Peace like a Monkey is a wonderful reminder of home is where the heart lives be it America or Africa. Plotkin writes, lives and parents like her observation of her son Janusz at age 7 climbing to untangle their pet monkey, with fearlessness and compassion.Read this tale and remember there are times we must stop the car and make a difference. Read it, loved it, laughed and cried. This book has a texture for life and a society like no other. It is hard to capture the enigmatic mix of tropical beauty with rugged underdevelopment which characterizes Tanzania. Marya Plotkin does so with grace and a deep reverence for the immense richness of Tanzanian culture and society.

A lovely collection of essays on random topics and people and places she encounrered during her eleven years living in Africa.

Mariya has a knack for the autobiographic tradition and sprinkled with a lot of wit and humor. Interspersed with valuable advice like how to rephrase questions in a culture where 'no' is not an answer, her book is a must read for Dar es Salaam residents. It is one of those books you can't put down and read in a day.

Great story of a brave woman with a heart filled with compassion and determination.

This is an amazing and heartwarming book - highly recommended.
