This volume is not a textbook stereotypical autobiography. While it is autobiographical in parts, it's more about Apter's life when it comes to his career in the magazine business alongside the wrestlers, agents, bookers, and executives and his interactions with them. He also touches upon his work in boxing and pop entertainment photography.To be brutally honest: I was a few chapters in and really wanted to not to continue reading. It's not because of anything I have against Apter. Although I don't know him personally nor professionally, I have no grudges or hard feelings against him, apart for a minor irritation at his continual ignoring of the greatest technical wrestler of all time, Bret “Hitman” Hart.What it comes down to is that I just didn't want to break my childhood “kayfabe” fantasy, even though I was constantly told, and knew deep down, as a kid wrestling was fake, indeed fixed.Reading about wrestlers' enormous (!) egos and petty insults towards Apter over things for which he had no control of at the magazines he worked for (Inside Wrestling, The Wrestler, and Pro Wrestling Illustrated, among others) succeeded in not only making my head spin, but it just made me want to put the book down and forget it, but I just couldn't. I wanted to see it through to the end.I'm glad I carried on because not only did I learn much about the wrestling business, but I learned just as much about the magazine business. Even for non-wrestling fans, those parts of the book are a must read because, even in this digital age, the trials and tribulations you endure in the magazine business - or anything related to writing - remains true to this day.And here's another piece of brutal honesty: For the amount of years Apter has had writing for magazines with an international audience, I was shocked at the rather sophomoric cover and layout of this book, the layout (two columns) imitating the 1980s layout of the magazines Apter worked for.I expected more polish from him, especially since this volume served as an autobiography of sorts. But upon reading his Introduction, I understood why the book is set up the way it is, so it was sweet of Apter to continue the “kayfabe” style that made him famous in the first place.As other people have stated here, this book is not in chronological order. It really jumps around in terms of time: David Von Erich's death in 1984 comes in the middle of the book, but, before that, he talks about the goings on of 1996, then he sprinkles what got his interest in wrestling started throughout the book, going back to the 1950s.So instead of introducing us to people, places, and periods of time at the beginning of a chapter, he fully introduces these concepts *after* he's already mentioned it pages and pages before. Yes, it's as confusing to read that description here as it is to follow that concept in the book.By the time you're done, you have to mentally put events in chronological order to understand his inspirations and motivation for getting involved with wrestling. His editors were at fault for not tightening this book up overall.One thing I was looking for from Apter that he never discussed was his inspiration for getting into photography in the first place.He wrote about how he got involved with wrestling, but what triggered his interest in photography – apart from the fact that his father didn't believe he had what it took to be in wrestling? (Keeping in mind he was very close to his father, his saying that only out of concern for his son's safety and not in an effort to keep him from following his passions in life.)Did Apter take a camera apart and become fascinated with photography as a result? Did his parents buy him a camera, he took random shots, got the pictures back and that started a love affair? That bit of information would have made for interesting reading and made pretty much everything else fall into place.One thing he does have a talent for and that is getting out of potentially volatile situations time and again – majority of which were due to major misunderstandings on the parts of wrestlers and promoters. That theme should have been the subtitle to this book since it's all over the place.Apter brought up a name from the past: Dan Shocket. I, too, thought it was Apter - or someone else – writing under a pseudonym, and that was largely due to the fact that no one could locate a picture of Shocket – not even his high school classmates, so the blame went to Apter. But, according to the Social Security Administration, Shocket was a real person, having a very different date of birth from Apter (August 10th, 1950 to be exact).In the end, for as much as I understand Apter's need to be neutral throughout the years due to his role as a wrestling writer, and having to be “in the field” with the wrestlers in order to get the photographs we fans were accustomed to seeing in the magazines, I was beyond nauseated at the way he continually kissed the asses of Vince McMahon, Sr. and Jr. throughout the book.Bottom line, Junior ruined professional wrestling by turning it into a bona fide carnival side show - and I am FAR from alone in this conclusion. I think it has something to do with that silly “sports entertainment” idea of his.McMahon managed to destroy the wrestling I knew and loved. I *never* liked the guy from when I was a kid. Time has proven my childhood feelings were on target.Thanks to him, we have the curse of Vince Russo continuing to plague professional wrestling to this day. Yeah, we all knew wrestling was fixed, but Russo and his crowd turned it into a porn show and, when they were shown the door by fans and promoters alike, exposed the business out of pure spite.And, for real, the only way McMahon got to where he is today – pretty much the only game in town when it comes to professional wrestling - is by doing what his buddy Donny Trump has always done: Play dirty and block the competition no matter how low you have to go.McMahon blocked Crockett from the pay-per-view market (if you're so sure of your product, why the fear of competition?) and it was only due to beyond poor decisions and straight up incompetent management at Crockett Promotions/NWA/WCW that the present-day World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) now owns all the video libraries from nearly every territory that ever existed in the United States (and we can thank Crockett for helping to destroy the territory market).These days, we have to endure seeing the WWE corporate feces on Mid-South/UWF, NWA/WCW, and Georgia broadcasts, among others, and then having them creatively edit wrestling history for whatever p.c. reason (read: Chris Benoit. What the guy did was beyond despicable, but it doesn't change the fact he and Nancy existed, okay?)Besides, erasing people from the historical record is Stalinesque - and, no, that's NOT a compliment.And I was happy to see Apter give the ultimate credit for his success and fame to where it belongs: The fans who bought and read his employer's magazines. Yes, it helped that promoters trusted him with information and welcomed him backstage at shows, but without the fans, no one would be anything – the McMahons included.In the end, I wish I had learned more about the wrestling business when I was much younger to the degree that it's known today because I would have invested my time in living life and pursuing other things instead of investing time in the 1980s version of reality TV.But, on the same hand, I stop short of 100% regretting the time I spent on wrestling – going to live cards, watching the wrestling shows on Saturday mornings, checking newsstands on my way to school in the morning to see if they had the latest issue of wrestling magazines, etc., - because I managed to meet my best friend (rest her soul) through our shared interest in wrestling.So, as with everything, there was some good to come out of that wrestling obsession I indulged in all those moons ago.This is an easy read and Apter's lack of ego makes it easier to endure all of the egos and drama he himself had to endure during his career as a wrestling photographer and writer. I don't know how he managed to maintain his sanity and goodwill. - Donna Di Giacomo.

As a lifelong Pro Wrestling Fan and I recognized the name Bill Apter from the Wrestling Magazinesso I purchased the magazine. The first few chapters brought back pots of good memories as a young wrestling fan. The first being Willie Gilzenberg both a Boxing and Wrestling promoter who had offices in Newark, NJ. He talks about working as a photographer in MSG the night Ivan Koloff defeated long time WWWF World Champion Bruno Sammartino I was in the Garden that Night. I like the name dropping throughout the book from all the different wrestling territories prior to Vince McMahon buying everybody out.. If you are a new or longtime Pro Wrestling Fan. You will enjoy this book.

I really enjoyed Bill Apter's book of stories and anecdotes from his marvelous career as the foremost photographer of wrestling in the US.Bill Apter was the public face of Pro Wrestling Illustrated for many years through his photographs and articles for the magazine and as such is well-known in wrestling circles as someone who truly loves the business and is a FAN.Apter's book is a series of chapters where he details certain events that happened to him in his life and the characters that he met. It is not in chronological order but that is ok, I wasn't looking for a blow by blow account of his life but wanted to hear his thoughts on the people he met.I really appreciated the refreshing honesty of his stories about leaving PWI and how that affected his working life.It is so obvious that he loves the wrestling business and his stories bear this out. There is very little dirt in the book and this is a good thing, when I think of Bill Apter, I think of a bygone era of wrestling when things just seemed simpler and cleaner than today.An excellent book and I am hoping for a sequel.

Cute book.It you like the cute-and-campy style that is Bill Apter's you'll be pleased with this collection of stories.Some give you a little "backstage insight" about issues you might not have known about.Some were just cute stories about his love of singing and taking pictures.You have to get used to the idea that the book is not written in chronological order...but I never found this "out of sequence story telling" to be distracting.It's an easy, enjoyable read.

I grew up with PWI posters and mags all over my room and he was one of the main writers/photographers for that and I will always cherish my childhood memories of Pro-Wrestling Madness. I've been honored to call Bill Apter my friend for well over 30 years since we worked together on wrestling and boxing magazines at G.C. London Publishing. That personal connection/bias aside, "Is Wrestling Fixed?" is a wonderfully poignant, funny, insightful and entertaining journey through pro wrestling, which casual fans (like me) and diehard fans will absolutely love. It's one of the best sports memoirs I've read in a very long time.

Bill Aptera is a funny smart and charming guy who is revered in the wrestling community being the backbone of the wrestling magazines that we grew up with.His stories take you into a world most fans don't see along with some of the most unusual characters on the face of the earth. This is a book that if you ever bought wrestling magazines, you're going to want.

I have read quite a few wrestling books lately. While this doesn't have the deep insider behind the scenes info, it's a pleasant read, and more importantly bill apter just comes across as great guy.I recently read books writer by a former wwe referee and also a ring announcer and the egos of those minor guys was unreal. Mr apter does not fall into that trap. I certainly don't regret giving him some of my money for this book.

OK, the font is way too small, but given the amount of information included in this effort, and the utility of having a one page guide to the new OS, I have to give it a pass. As a "Quick Reference Guide ' it dies the job, ordering just the essential information in an orderly fashion and in the sequence in which it is needed. Would it have been too much to ask to give us two pages? I think not, but I found this useful as long as I have my trusty magnifying glass by my side. The irony is that this would have been great for seniors if it were in large print. If a senior, try Windows 10 For Seniors For Dummies.

I expected more pages, but I guess it's four . Front and back, open for two more. There is print on front and back. I would prefer larger print and more pages. I am confused. It looks like a good quick reference if I squint at it and figure out jaegon

This is a nice summary reference guide. But be forewarned. It will only be useful to you if you already have another in-depth reference book, and have been trying to use Windows 10 for a little while.Bottom line, you should realize it is a 'reference guide', not a 'beginner's guide'.So, once you have been struggling for a while, it is indeed a handy reference, to supplement some kind of 'in-depth' book.I like it for that purpose.

Good for beginners. I bought this for my mother. This gives the user a quick guide with simple pictures and symbols. I have used several of these items and find them very useful. This product for Windows 10 is for a beginner. An experienced user will not gain much knowledge with this item.

Jumps from laptop touch screen to PC in clumsy way. Hard enough to follow. Not 1 of my PC Q's were covered. Also not entirerly correct. Not worth 10 cents.

This might be more helpful if I could actually read the thing without going blind. The print is much too small. Spring for the extra page to make it bigger, and I'll spring for the bucks to buy it.

Why does MS WANT TO TAKE A YEAR OF MY TIME FIGURING OUT A RELATIVELY NEW HUMAN INTERFACE WHEN ALL I WANTED WAS SOMETHING TO RUN MY APPS.? By all means fix the OS, but let me chose the interface. Just like Missy in the book, my 8 yo daughter was adopted by a single Mom. This book is such a gift to us. My daughter just came alive reading about a little girls whose family is different in many of the same ways ours is. After a recent season of feeling very deeply those differences as she AND her friends have begun questioning them, this book gave us a great anxiety-free opportunity to talk about our situation. Also taking about different kinds of families where Dad’s are “missing” was so helpful as well. The best though was when I asked her what her favorite part of.the book was and she said “it helped me ‘get’ that God really is my Daddy.” I was afraid she might be a little old for the book but she made me read it to her 2 x the first day and read it herself once!

I saw Lisa being interviewed on TV and she was talking about this book. I immediately had several friends in mind, so I purchased 5. 1 for me and 4 for gifts! I have heard Lisa speak and have been blessed to meet both Lisa and Missy. Their amazing story and love for each other shines through in this book! It is so beautifully written and the illustrations are fantastic. Buy several.

This book is wonderfully written from Missy's perspective. As I read it to my granddarling, who lives in a two household situation, she was encouraged. As we read about Missy feeling completely loved by her Heavenly Daddy, my granddarling found hope for when she misses her skin daddy. This book is suitable for children whose fathers have died, children of divorce and those whose daddies work away from home - like in the military. It is bright and upbeat and will make your child's heart soar.

I got this for myself, actually. Sometimes the best reminders about our best Daddy are the ones stripped of all the words to the basic truth. I read it to my sons, but my husband and I let it sink into our own hearts, too. A two-fer!

This is the sweetest book! It’s also such an important message! Love!!

This book is the most wonderful book for two-mom family. It isn't preachy, nor does it point out that there's anything different about having two moms. This is a book that my son can read and recognize his family. Actually it was uncanny how the Mama was like me and the Mommy was like my spouse - from the curly vs. straight hair, to what we do. Each page has a line about what Mama or Mommy do for the little boy, from putting him in the bath, to reading him a book, cooking him dinner, or riding down the slide. Any toddler will recognize the activities of this child and his moms. Note that it isn't necessarily a little boy but having a son, I naturally think of the child as a boy. There's no real reference to Mama and Mommy being a couple, so the book could also be used for a kid being raised by a mom and a gramma, you'd just have to change the words. The author basically did an amazing job of making this book appeal/fit to so many families.The illustrations are nice and the words roll off the tongue.I have to say thanks because most books (of course!) have a mom and a dad, and I started to worry that my son would be asking "where's my dad?" if we got too many books like that.

A good book for 2 mom families. It's simply a "me and Mommy do this and me and Mama do that" style book. No mention of diversity, no explanation of sexuality or difference. I bought this book for my daughter to instill a sense of acceptance from an early age. I am a woman married to a man and know my daughter is going to see many examples of that kind of family being celebrated and set as the acceptable norm. So it very important that she sees many types of loving families. She can't understand gay and lesbian rights and homophobia, as she is 5 months and no one has taught her hate. But she likes the pictures and likes that I tell her that the baby in the book does some the same things she does. I hug her and tell her that the 2 mommies love the baby like we love her. She doesn't comprehend all of this, but I think compassion and acceptance need to be instilled even before comprehension. We also have Daddy, Papa and Me by Leslea Newman. I like how the gender of the child is unknown. It says the books are for ages 4-8, but my baby likes them.

My wife and I are expecting a baby early next year so I've been looking to build a small collection of things for the baby, one of them being books. This is such a nice addition for learning about family and all the different ways they can be created and how they do things together. So happy I made this purchase!

This book is really cute and well-written. The rhymes are sweet and not tongue twisters. It's great for any type of family--the normalcy of having loving parents who help one another and have specific roles they fill as well. I like showing that diversity exists in families and people. If you want that or just a cute board book, this is a new favorite of mine. (Baby is 5 mo old)

Wonderful book for kids with two moms. Our two yr old wants us to read it over and over. The negative reviews are mostly homophobic or those who thought this book was about multiple names to call the same mom.

So happy we found this book for our 1-year old. All the baby/kids books we have are targeted towards straight families. Such a relief to have a book that’s the perfect image of our family. Plus she loves it!

I was very lucky to meet some great friends on my honeymoon only to find out that when we both got home (me to the US and them to the UK) we were both expecting our first children. I ordered this book along with other cute baby items from the US to ship to the UK and they are doing the same. I thought this was a cool gift because I wasn't sure if they had things like this in the UK. They emailed me back as soon as they received the package and said they loved the book. I'm very glad books are being made to show that not everyone is the same and that's ok. I enjoyed this book and hope their daughter Emily will as well.

Love this book! There should be more like it. I read it to my daughter every night and she enjoys it. The illustrations are cute and reflects so much on our family, that it’s pretty amazing to be able to read this to our daughter to show her there are other families just like us!

If Beaver Had a Fever is a very cute read. The rhyming is read-aloud perfect, it's not too long, and the illustrations are bright, colorful and fun. This is a great choice for story time or to share with any toddler or preschooler. This strikes just a perfect balance between whimsy and tender loving care that is sure to appeal to youngsters. The book consists of a series of questions and answers between a young bear and his mother. The young bear asks questions like "What if Fox had the chicken pox?" Mama Bear then answers in a fun and silly rhyme as she tells little bear what she would do to help poor fox. The format works beautifully, perfectly integrated with Kevin O'Malley's distinct illustrations.The illustrations feature Mama and her young bear as they conduct their conversation. The centerpiece of each spread is the drawing that depicts the rhyme action. These drawings look like they were done in crayon and are very joyful and creative. It is sure to generate lots of requests for re-reads as kids chuckle over silly notions like a fox wearing a sweater, and a chimp with a limp walking with a candy cane. This is fun stuff that still manages to convey quite a bit of love and caring.

The book tells a cute story in short rhymes about Little Bear asking his Mama Bear if she were in charge of a zoo, what she would do if various animals got sick. He is shown drawing pictures of the animals with crayons while he talks to his Mama Bear. The illustrations are quite good in that the drawings by Little Bear are more child-like and slightly fainter than the illustrations of the two main characters.Several animals are discussed as Little Bear asks Mama Bear what she would do if each one got sick and she responds each time with a silly rhyme. That encourages him to ask about another animal to hear her response, once again in rhyme.The writing is better than average as are the illustrations, but what I liked most was that the Mama Bear and Little Bear seemed to have a good time while he was asking her questions. The last four lines of the book show Mama Bear giving reassurance to Little Bear what would happen if he got sick:“So if my Little Bear’s sick,There’s nothing to fear.Whatever goes wrong,Your Mama Bear’s here.”That reassurance is what makes this a 5 star book for me!

Helen Ketteman is a favorite author of mine. Her books are all wonderful! Some of my favorites are: Bubba the Cowboy Prince, Armadilly Chili, Heatwave, Senorita Gordita, The Three Little Gators, and Goodnight Little Monster. They are all wonderful though!This book is very cute. It is a rhyming book about how mama would care for the animals at the zoo -- beaver had a fever, gnu had the flu, etc. The illustrations are also adorable many of them done as little Bear's drawings of the animals and what mama bear would do to help them.The kids love participating in the rhymes, trying to figure out what would rhyme... This is a really cute book! Helen Ketteman is an amazing writer, and she proves it once again with this book -- which is a different kind of book than many of her others. I love this book!

Since I am on the spectrum, social cues haven't always been easy for me to decipher. Of course there is no cure, but doing research and reading books like this do help me to feel more "normal" in this world, if that's possible. I like that everything is obviously outlined in the Table of Contents because I was able to pick and choose what I felt more drawn to and what I believed I would benefit from reading first. As I continue to delve into this work I hope I continue to learn new techniques and easily integrate them into my everyday life.

This book sounded interesting and a quick glance at the first page of reviews looked good, but after a closer look, at least 20 of 26 reviews were written by someone who speaks English as a second language. Are these all written by the same person?The book is scattered and rambling with a lot of info that has little to do with the subject as if just filling pages. There is nothing to establish the author's credibility and not much reason to believe he knows what he is talking about.This is the first time I've written a review. I've bought disappointing books before, but since I feel like I got scammed by bogus reviews, I felt compelled to make others aware.
